Extinction Rebellion Group Protestors

Four environmental protestors were loudly chanting in the US Open semifinal between Coco Gauff and Karolina Muchova was stopped for almost 49 minutes. Three of them were spotted wearing yellow, Grey, and White T-shirts with “End Fossil Fuels” print on them. 

The T-shirts seem to be associated with the Extinction Rebellion group that is based in the UK.

In the second half, the protestors are chanting. At first, people are confused, they are looking for the source of the sound then they notice the protestors.

Players are instructed by the security team to go back to their rooms and wait until they handle the problem. Then security surrounded them and they were executed from the stadium. Some fans are chanting “Get them out, get them out” because they delayed the game.

The USTA said in a statement, “Three of the four protesters were escorted out of the stadium without further incident. The fourth protester affixed their bare feet to the floor of the seating bowl. Due to the nature of this action, NYPD and medical personnel were needed in order to safely remove this individual from the stadium”.

The USTA added,

The four protesters were taken into NYPD custody”.

After 49 minutes the protestors were finally removed from the stadium, Gauff went for the win 6-4, 7-5. Some reporters said they interviewed the protesters and they

“warned that there is ‘no tennis on a dead planet”.
