Judge Charlaine F. Olmedo of the LA Superior Court sentenced the 47-year-old actor after denying the defense’s request for a new trial and hearing from the women about the trauma they endured and the anguish brought on by the memories in the years that followed.
The penalty was as long as the law would allow. It indicates that Masterson may be imprisoned indefinitely but will be eligible for parole after serving 25 1/2 years.
Masterson gave up his opportunity to speak before the court gave his verdict, and neither he nor the other family members seated next to him showed any signs of reaction. Earlier in the hearing, his wife, the actor Bijou Phillips, shed a few tears.
